ALASKA: Delegation applauds USDA purchase of Alaska Seafood Products

February 20, 2024 — The Alaskan Congressional delegation of Senators Lisa Murkowski and Dan Sullivan and Representative Mary Peltola, announced their support of the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) announcement that it plans to purchase about $100 million of Alaska pink and sockeye salmon through Section 32 and the Commodity Credit Corporation.

“USDA’s Section 32 purchase announcement is great news for Alaska—almost $100 million of Alaskan seafood for people experiencing food insecurity. This purchase won’t just bolster Alaska’s seafood industry and support our coastal communities, but will help bring the highest-quality and healthiest seafood products in the world to families in need. I am grateful for the USDA’s investment in our fishermen and the health of Americans,” said Senator Murkowski.

USDA planning another big Alaska pollock, salmon purchase

February 13, 2024 — The U.S. Department of Agriculture is planning to purchase 15.2 million pounds of Alaska pollock, along with 173,000 cases of canned salmon.

The USDA is asking suppliers to bid on 7.6 million pounds of frozen pollock fish sticks and 7.6 million pounds of frozen pollock fillets. Bids are due by 22 February.

US suppliers share USD 32.5 million USDA shrimp contract

February 8, 2024 — The U.S. Department of Agriculture has issued contracts cumulatively worth USD 32.5 million (EUR 30 million) to several U.S. Gulf of Mexico wild shrimp suppliers.

After asking for bids in mid-January 2024, the USDA awarded the majority of the contracts for 385,000 cases of peeled and deveined shrimp to New Orleans, Louisiana, U.S.A.-based Paul Piazza & Son for USD 15.1 million (EUR 14 million).

ALASKA: USDA partners with Alaska to strengthen local food systems

Janaury 22, 2024 — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has partnered with the state government of Alaska on strengthening the supply chain of local and regional food systems.

Together, the USDA and Alaska are offering more than USD 1.9 million (EUR 1.7 million) in competitive infrastructure grants for projects that can “build resilience across the middle of the supply chain.”

USDA asking for bids on major wild-caught shrimp purchase

January 22, 2024 — The U.S. Department of Agriculture is asking U.S. shrimp suppliers to submit bids on 388,500 cases of shrimp by 29 January.

The winning suppliers will be required to deliver the frozen peeled and deveined shrimp between 16 March and 30 June.

Pacific Seafood, OBI, Silver Bay and Trident Land Latest USDA Salmon Contract

January 7, 2024 — Last month the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released an open purchase request for wild salmon. Now, the winners of the contract have been announced.

Of the wild salmon that the USDA is seeking, 252,000 pounds is for frozen fillets in the price range of $7.10-$7.40. The USDA also requested 153,520 cases of canned pink salmon in the price range of $43.49-$53.06.

USDA to purchase USD 36 million worth of domestic shrimp, awards USD 1.2 million in pollock contracts

December 21, 2023 — The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is purchasing up to USD 36 million (EUR 33 million) of wild shrimp from the U.S. Gulf of Mexico and the South Atlantic, U.S. Representative Garret Graves (R-Louisiana) announced in a press release.

The purchase is possible thanks to funds available under the USDA’s Section 32 Funds for Strengthening Markets, Income, and Supply, Graves’ office said.

USDA to purchase 405,000 pounds of wild salmon, awards catfish contracts

December 14, 2023 — The U.S. Department of Agriculture is inviting companies to bid on contracts to supply 405,000 pounds of wild salmon, in a continuation of the department’s support for the Pacific Northwest commercial salmon fishery. The announcement comes soon after the agency awarded more than USD 2 million (EUR 1.85 million) in contracts to supply domestic catfish. 

The USDA wants to purchase 252,000 pounds of wild frozen salmon fillets and 153,520 cases of wild canned pink salmon for use in the National School Lunch Program and other Federal Food and Nutrition Assistance Programs.

USDA buying more pollock, awards walleye contract

December 12, 2023 — After a significant pollock purchase of USD 1.75 million (EUR 1.6 million) in November, the U.S. Department of Agriculture is seeking to buy more wild Alaska pollock with a deadline to receive bids of 13 December.

Simultaneously, the agency awarded a significant walleye contract worth more than USD 1.4 million (EUR 1.3 million).

Channel Fish, Trident split USD 1.75 million pollock award

December 5, 2023 — Channel Fish Processing and Trident Seafoods split USD 1.75 (EUR 1.6 million) in Alaska pollock contracts awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture on 1 December.

Braintree, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based Channel Fish will supply USD 988,559 (EUR 913,854) worth of frozen pollock sticks, while Seattle, Washington, U.S.A.-based Trident will supply bulk surimi worth USD 759,924 (EUR 702,497).
