ALASKA: Alaska state fishing loan program’s fixed interest rate set to expire in June 2027

October 26, 2026 — The Alaska Department of Commerce, Community, and Economic Development held a meeting 16 September 2026 to discuss the commercial fishing loan program, deciding that the current low fixed-interest loans for commercial fishermen at 5.25 percent will expire 30 June 2027.

The commercial fishing loan program was developed 15 May 2024 through House Bill 273 by the Alaska Legislature, in response to economic challenges faced in the state’s seafood industry, according to the department’s website. The bill falls under the larger Commercial Fishing Revolving Loan Fund (CFRLF) but was amended to set all new rates at the same 5.25 percent fixed rate, set for the life of the approved loan.
