US seafood sales grew across all categories in September despite high inflation

October 18, 2026 — U.S. fresh, frozen, and shelf-stable seafood sales rose by both value and volume in September, marking the first time all three categories saw year-over-year growth in months.

Fresh seafood price inflation rose 3.3 percent, but sales by volume in the category still grew 4.8 percent, while sales by value increased 5.8 percent to USD 666 million (EUR 595 million), according to Lakeland, Florida, U.S.A.-based 210 Analytics, which analyzes Circana data. The dollar sales growth was a combination of inflation, which was up 0.9 percent on a per-pound basis, and demand-driven growth, 210 Analytics Principal Anne-Marie Roerink told SeafoodSource.

Inflation among factors leading to consumer sentiment dip in August, but shelf-stable seafood continues to shine at US retail

September 18, 2026 — Shelf-stable seafood continues to succeed at U.S. retail, posting jumps in year-over-year sales in August, while fresh and frozen sales remained relatively stagnant.

Shelf-stable seafood prices rose over 10 percent in August 2026 compared to August 2025, according to Circana data analyzed by 210 Analytics, but sales by volume during the month still rose 5.7 percent, leading to an increase in sales by value of nearly 16 percent to USD 390 million (EUR 338 million).

June shelf-stable sales defy inflationary pressure at US retail; fresh, frozen sales affected

July 16, 2026 — Seafood prices continued their inflationary trend in June at U.S. retail, rising 4.1 percent in the fresh category, 7.8 percent in shelf-stable, and 12.5 percent in frozen seafood, according to Circana data analyzed by 210 Analytics.

Depending on the species, inflation was even more dramatic. For instance, frozen shrimp prices rose 18.5 percent year over year in June, while frozen crab prices increased 13.5 percent. In the fresh category, tilapia prices rose 8.3 percent, and trout rose 5.8 percent.

Seafood prices soar, but US retail sales still see some gains in November

December 18, 2025 — Despite a significant increase in seafood prices in November, overall U.S. seafood sales still realized some gains in the fresh and ambient categories.

Fresh seafood prices increased 4.1 percent in November, led by a spike in fresh shellfish prices of 8.4 percent compared to November 2024, according to data from Chicago, Illinois, U.S.A.-based market research firm Circana analyzed by 210 Analytics.
