September 24, 2014 — The following was released by NOAA:
NOAA's New England Bay Watershed Education and Training Program (B-WET) is an environmental education program that promotes locally relevant, experiential learning for K-12 school students. B-WET administers a competitive funding process that promotes Meaningful Watershed Educational Experiences that:
are place-based
are investigative or project oriented
are an integral part of the instructional program
are part of a sustained activity considers the watershed as a system
are enhanced by NOAA products, services, or personnel, where appropriate
New England B-WET focuses on the priorities and challenges facing New England watersheds by helping students and teachers use the tools of science to understand their local watershed system and its benefits. By conducting investigative projects outdoors for their learning experiences, students become more interested in science, technology, engineering and math. And, by focusing on watersheds where they live, students and teachers can become knowledgeable stewards of their local environment.
New England B-WET targets the States of Maine, Vermont, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Connecticut and Rhode Island. To be eligible, applicants must work with an audience in the targeted geography, but do not need to be from one of these states. K-12 public and independent schools and school systems, institutions of higher education, community-based and nonprofit organizations, state or local government agencies, interstate agencies, and Indian tribal governments may apply.
Please note that funding is between $25,000 – $80,000 per year.
