July 14, 2014 — The Mystic & Noank Library will present a talk by University of Connecticut assistant history professor Matthew McKenzie about the history of the fisheries industry on July 21 at 7 p.m.
McKenzie works at the university's Avery Point campus in Groton and is the coordinator of the American Studies program. His expertise is on 18th- and 19th-century maritime trades. He is a member of the New England Fisheries Management Council that works with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to manage ocean fish stocks. McKenzie will speak about how the fisheries industry has changed throughout the centuries and the issues facing it both past and present.
