Phasing out fish discards and improving public perception are the two pressing issues for the fishing industry, according to the Scottish Fisherman's Federation.
The SFF is calling on the incoming Scottish Government to address the issues after May 5 and adopt a "fresh vision" for the industry.
The organisation has launched its own manifesto, outlining points of action for the new government and highlighting challenges facing fishermen in Scotland. They include fish discards, when skippers are forced to throw back part of their catch to stay within the law.
The manifesto said: "This is an emotive subject, usually dealt with superficially. Discarding is not universal. It is the symptom of the greater disease of an inability to lay regulation that deals well with mixed fisheries.
