SEAFOODNEWS.COM by John Sackton — July 16, 2014 — Eastern Fisheries has announced the purchase of a minority interest in their Japanese trading partner Global Marketing, Inc.
Global Marketing is one of the largest scallop exporters in Japan, shipping over 3.6 million pounds of scallops mostly to Eastern Fisheries, in 2013. So far this year they have shipped about 750,000 lbs.
“We are continuing our commitment to vertical integration, attempting to eliminate unnecessary costs, whenever possible. This acquisition brings us one step closer to fulfilling that commitment,” said Joe Furtado, executive vice president.
“Global Marketing has decades of experience in this region and has continually proven itself as a leading exporter. This acquisition officially brings one of the largest purchasers of Japanese scallops together with one of the largest exporters of Japanese scallops,” added Furtado.
Eastern Fisheries is the largest scallop producer in the US. Based in New Bedford Mass. they operate 25 scallop vessels, and also have a large international scallop business based on three US plants and two processing plants in China.
