September 10, 2013 — Hull, MA — Fishing Partnership Support Services (FPSS) is offering free safety and survival training for New England fishermen on Friday, September 13th at the U.S. Coast Guard Station, 93 Main Street, in Hull MA. This hands-on training is conducted by US Coast Guard certified Fishing Vessel Safety Instructors and will begin at 7:30 AM and end at 3:00 PM. The day-long session includes training and instruction including on-board fire fighting, man overboard procedures, damage control, flooding and pump procedures, donning and using immersion suits, flares and EPIRB’s, life raft deployment, helicopter hoist procedures and emergency communications and first aid.
Bobby Martin of the F/V RESOLVE out of Sandwich Marina said “I took the training in New Bedford this past February and found it to be a real eye opening experience. I thought I was prepared but I was not. This is a great session with really important hands-on training. I really believe all commercial fishermen would benefit greatly from this training and you get real information about how to save the lives of you and your crew. It is free and I will definitely take the course again.”

The training session is supported by the US Coast Guard, the Massachusetts Fishing Partnership and the Massachusetts State Police Underwater Recovery Team. Lunch is being provided courtesy of the Ocean Marine Insurance Agency.
