North Carolina inspectors are now looking into revelations mislabeled fish was sent to area grocery stores from Gastonia seafood distributor Fresher Than Fresh.
The state's Food and Drug Protection Division sent staffers on a paper trail hunt last week. Inspectors will be back at Fresher Than Fresh again tomorrow.
"Certainly anything that is being substituted for something, or is being mislabeled is a problem for us," said Food and Drug Protection Division Director Dan Ragan.
A source with knowledge of Fresher Than Fresh's operation told WBTV the company had been substituting Steelhead Trout in place of Atlantic Salmon and it had been on-going for about a year.
The source who spoke on condition of anonymity says the mislabeled fish was only being sent to Food Lion grocery stores.
