James Caito, Vice President of Caito Fisheries, writes to Congressman Mike Thompson to explain how Caito Fisheries has purchased "zero pounds of trawl groundfish" this year, a situation which he attributes to the implementation of a Catch Shares system in California.
Caito Fisheries is a seafood processor with processing plants and seafood buying stations in Fort Bragg, San Francisco, and Eureka, California. Caito is one of the few processors remaining in California that handles trawl groundfish. The Caito family has been involved in fisheries since arriving in the United States as immigrants many generations ago.
