Shipping rates remain stable, but logistics industry bracing for impact of global conflict

June 19, 2025 — Spot rates for ocean shipping have remained relatively stable in mid-June, but experts are warning industry stakeholders to prepare for more upheaval as the Israel-Iran conflict escalates. 

Average spot rates between the Far East and the U.S. West Coast, according to shipping price analysis service Xeneta, rose just slightly, reaching USD 5,345 (EUR 4,639) per 40-Foot Equivalent Unit (FEU), up from USD 5,082 (EUR 4,411) on 5 June.

Shipping rates continue to rise as global economic headwinds mount

June 10, 2025 — Global shipping rates are rising, especially on routes between the U.S. and China, as the nations’ trade war continues and U.S. courts consider the legality of President Donald Trump’s tariff program.

Shipping rate indexing and analysis firm Xeneta has reported a continued surge in spot rates between East Asia and the U.S., significantly driving up prices for importers.

Capacity constraints, not volume increases, may be to blame for rising shipping rates

September 21, 2023 — An expected rebound in global shipping traffic has stalled, with manufacturers and distributors still struggling to reduce inventories stockpiled during the peak of consumer demand for goods during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Global freight flows have not significantly recovered from the significant freight downturn that began in the middle of 2022, and the nine largest ports in the U.S. each recorded their lowest summer traffic since 2017, according to Reuters.
