Black Sea Bass Assessment Stakeholder Session: May 16, 2022, 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.

May 9, 2022 — The following was released by the Mid-Atlantic Fishery Management Council:

The Black Sea Bass Working Group will hold a virtual stakeholder meeting on Monday, May 16 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., using the WebEx online meeting platform. The meeting will provide an overview of the black seas bass assessment and highlight stakeholder input before opening up for a discussion on, but not limited to the following topics:

•Changes over time in availability, distribution, landings, and discards
•Ecosystem drivers
•Selectivity by gear type
•Socioeconomic impacts on fishing operations

Please register using this RSVP link before May 13, 2022. If you are unable to attend but would like to add a question or comment you can submit one via the RSVP link. The WebEx meeting link will be sent to the email you provide and can also be found on the Black Sea Bass Working Group webpage.

This stakeholder session will be hosted by the Northeast Fisheries Science Center. Please direct any questions to Michele Traver, Assessment Process Lead.

 

Research Track Stock Assessments Seeking Working Group Members

March 9, 2021 — The following was released by NOAA Fisheries:

Fisheries Stock Assessments: Research Track

We are soliciting working group members for our 2022 and 2023 research track stock assessments. These working groups will carry out the analytical work required for the species-specific or topic-based research track stock assessments. Peer reviews for American plaice and spiny dogfish will occur in spring of 2022. Peer reviews for black sea bass and bluefish will occur in fall of 2022. Peer reviews for Atlantic cod and Applying State Space Models will occur in 2023. If you are interested in being a member of any of these working groups, please fill out this google form by March 29th, 2021.

Butterfish Working Group Meeting Set

November 16, 2020 — The following was released by NOAA Fisheries:

The first meeting of the working group focused on improving the butterfish stock assessment is set for November 18. The meeting will be held via Google meet.

For a list of working group members, the agenda, access to documents, and information on how to participate, visit the event website.

Research track assessments evaluate new datasets that can either inform or be used in new or existing stock assessment models.

Call for Butterfish & Squid Working Group Members

October 6, 2020 — The following was released by NOAA Fisheries:

We are currently soliciting working group members for both the butterfish and Illex squid research track stock assessments.  The research track peer review meeting will occur in November 2021.

If you are interested in being a member of either working group, please fill out the online questionnaire (a Google form) by October 16, 2020.

The specific tasking for the butterfish and Illex squid working groups is detailed in the questionnaire.

The Role of Working Groups in Northeast Fishery Stock Assessment

Working groups carry out the analytical work required for the stock assessment or topic, including developing and implementing the research plan and terms of reference that are provided by the Northeast Region Coordinating Council.
