The career of Congressman Barney Frank spanned more than three decades and shaped national policy and debate from Main Street to Wall Street, including the areas of financial reform, gay and civil rights, fishing industry, housing, defense spending, immigration, consumer protection and the environment.
Upon his retirement from Congress in 2012, Congressman Frank donated a treasure trove of documents and artifacts to UMass Dartmouth and has pledged to visit campus twice yearly to share his experiences and perspectives. The combination of his historical records and his narratives on how those records shaped—and continue to shape—national policy offers students, faculty, historians, journalists and citizens a valuable opportunity to learn, discover and engage in perpetuity.
The Archive Collection of Congressman Barney Frank will serve a number of research and educational endeavors including insight into the evolution of political campaigning. As a complete record of a congressional office, they demonstrate the process by which a concept becomes legislation and then law. Finally, the constituent letters on particular issues document social thinking during specific times in our country’s history.
