February 13, 2015 — While a blizzard is raging around Cape Ann this weekend, scenes of summer and fall fishing off our shores will return to television, with the Season 4 kickoff of National Geographic TV’s “Wicked Tuna”, featuring several local fishermen.
The show’s new season starts Sunday at 9 p.m. on National Geographic, and will air internationally on National Geographic Channel in 171 countries and in 45 languages.
Last year, millions of viewers watched as Gloucester captain Dave Carraro of FV/Tuna.com dominated the catch in spite of a difficult fishing season. This was the second time, however, that Carraro came out on top, pulling in 15 fish, valued at $126,400. And this season, the promoters have said the giant bluefin tuna are larger and the competition is tougher.
In its third season, the show solidified its position among National Geographic’s top-rated series, and gave rise to a spin-off, “Wicked Tuna: North vs. South.” That series premiered as the network’s highest-rated new series of 2014 and has been filming its second season in the early months of 2015. Both series are produced by Pilgrim Studios.
