Founded in 1969, the Gloucester Fishermen's Wives Association has worked to improve the lives of fishermen and their families, from the Gloucester pier to Washington, D.C., and internationally.
Now, they're taking that commitment to cooking as well, with a series of cooking classes slated for Rockport.
Starting April 28, Angela Sanfillippo, Rafaela Terzo, Nina Groppo, and Mariann Genovese will teach two sessions of three classes on Wednesday evenings from 6 to 9. The second session will start May 19.
The GFWA cooking classes will include recipes for preparing whole fish, which is timely because the GFWA, with the support of an MIT SeaGrant and the Northwest Atlantic Marine Alliance, has helped initiate Cape Ann Fresh Catch, a fish cooperative that provides funding up front to fishermen and whole, local fish delivered weekly to its members.
