MASSACHUSETTS: Sewerage Leak Causes Shellfishing Closures in Wareham, Marion

November 27, 2018 — A sewer leak last week caused a shellfishing closure of coastal waterways in Wareham and portions of Marion.

The Wareham Department of Natural Resources was notified that an undetermined quantity of sewerage leaked from the Smith Avenue pump station near Hamilton Beach into a storm drain and was discharged into the bay.

The Massachusetts Division of Marine Fisheries instituted a precautionary shellfish closure for Wareham River and Weweantic River.
