Stavis Seafoods hires David Lancaster as president

January 4, 2021 — Boston, Massachusetts, U.S.A.-based Stavis Seafoods has promoted its vice president of sales, David Lancaster, to company president.

In his new position, Lancaster will be responsible for the overall management and strategic direction of the company, according to Enrique Garcia, the owner of Vigo, Spain-based Profand Fishing Holding, which acquired Stavis Seafoods through subsidiary IMV in January 2018. Garcia said Lancaster “will also be charged with executing the company’s growth strategy by driving sales, increasing operational and purchasing efficiencies and execution, expanding our brand across multiple channels, and growing our retail and national account customer base and product capabilities.”

Fish Pier’s seafood business evolving with the industry

June 16, 2016 — BOSTON — They dress much like their fathers and grandfathers before them, fish-stained slickers over well-worn jeans, thick gloves nicked by countless fillet knives.

And as the once-empty neighborhood around them closes in with new office towers and luxury apartments, the Seaport District’s fishmongers still make their living off the ocean.

Just often not the one that laps at the docks outside their doors.

After years of struggle in the face of a declining local fishery, the Fish Pier in Boston is again bursting with seafood businesses. But with New England fishing stocks tightly managed, the Fish Pier dealers are now more reliant on fishermen from distant oceans, their catch arriving by truck after being shipped through Logan Airport or the Conley Terminal.

“Just like a Ford has parts from different parts of the world, I think Boston is becoming this seaport hub, and that allows us to be very successful,” said Richard Stavis, chief executive of Stavis Seafoods, a Boston-based national seafood distributor with offices on Fish Pier.

South Boston seafood processor to anchor development

March 7, 2016 — As luxury housing and shiny new offices went up near Stavis Seafoods’ home on the South Boston waterfront during the past decade or so, the fish processor and distributor continued to expand as well.

First, there was the addition to its Channel Street site. Then came the new corporate office at the Boston Fish Pier, and finally a plant near the Harpoon Brewery.

Now, a new stage has been reached: Stavis unveiled plans on Monday to put its 100 or so waterfront workers under one roof, as it becomes an anchor to a new development on Fid Kennedy Avenue, on a property in the city’s industrial park known as the Massport Marine Terminal.

The project represents an important milestone for the Massachusetts Port Authority, which has struggled to develop the roughly 30-acre property where Stavis will move. The site is specifically designated by the state for marine industrial uses, a designation that appeared to hamper past development efforts.
