OREGON: Oregon officials warn about paralytic shellfish poisoning from mussels

May 30, 2024 — An outbreak of paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) has sickened at least 20 people in the U.S. state of Oregon, according to the Oregon Health Authority (OHA).

The people who have reported as sick were recreationally harvesting mussels on 25 May or 26 May at either Short Beach near Oceanside, at Hug Point, or at Seaside in Clatsop County. Some have been hospitalized, but no deaths have been reported.

OREGON: Pacific Seafood’s Warrenton plant coping with new COVID-19 outbreak

March 26, 2021 — Pacific Seafood’s processing plant in Warrenton, Oregon, U.S.A is facing its third mass outbreak of COVID-19 in the past year.

According to a weekly report from the Oregon Health Authority published 24 March, Pacific’s Warrenton facility has experienced eight active COVID-19 cases since 14 March, following an investigation that began 9 March.

OREGON: Pacific Seafood’s Warrenton plant hit with another coronavirus case

July 9, 2020 — A positive COVID-19 test has been reported from a new hire at the Pacific Seafood processing plant in Warrenton, Oregon.

The Oregon Health Authority plans to employ contact tracing and other measures in what Clatsop County leaders described as a “joint decision.” The Daily Astorian reported that there had been “several days of tensions” between the county, the health authority, and Pacific over how to deal with the case.

West Coast Fishing Group Plans for Whiting Fleet Coronavirus Testing Prior to Season Opening

May 14, 2020 — A little forethought may help prevent the spread of the coronavirus among the West Coast whiting fleet. At the very least, it will give fishing captains some peace of mind.

The Newport, Ore.-based Midwater Trawlers Cooperative partnered with the Oregon Health Authority, Lincoln County Public Health and Samaritan Hospital to provide COVID-19 testing to crew members on Pacific whiting vessels prior to start of the season that starts Friday.
