Upcoming film on oyster farming gets a support party

September 1, 2016 — Sink r Swim Men’s Store hosted an Oyster Roast and Social last week to benefit the making of “The Oyster Farmers,” an upcoming documentary film directed by Corinne G. Ruff, produced by Angela Andersen and to be created by Oak Leaf Media.

It is a feature length documentary to be shot in and around local waters.

Angela Andersen was a USEPA Environmental Champion in 2015 and a Sustainable Jersey Environmental Hero.

Riff was the producer of the post Sandy documentary “”Landfall:The Eyes of Sandy that showed the LBI region during and after the storm

According to the film’s logline release, “it will showcase the wet and wild world of oyster farmers on the Barnegat Bay from proliferation, to decimation, to resurgence.”

“Oysters like many of their fellow bivalves clean the water and create reefs naturally. They are a building block for biodiversity in the bay and aquaculture creates jobs,” said Andersen in an email after the event.

The roast was hosted by the Samantha DiPietro in the courtyard of her store, which shares a building with her family’s Blue Water Café in Haven Beach.

The DePietros wanted to host something to use their resources and dynamite location to bring our community and the film team together, said Andersen.

Sam’s father, Steve, was shucking clams and topping many of them with Jetty Coastal Provisions new Rocktail sauce that DiPietro said was the “best thing you can put on a clam.”

He was also plugging Sink r Swim telling one guest, “If you get any (sauce) on your shirt, you can get a new one right back there,” he said pointing to the clothing store.

Manahawkin based Jetty and its Jetty Rock Foundation were major sponsors of the event.
