Senator Snowe Sends Letter to Maine Fishing Industry Reaffirming her Commitment to Fisheries |

The following was released by the office of Maine Senator Olympia Snowe:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Senator Olympia J. Snowe (R-Maine), Ranking Member of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on Oceans, Atmosphere, Fisheries and Coast Guard, sent an open letter to the Maine fishing industry reaffirming her commitment to achieve the stability and predictability the community requires for long-term economic success. The fishing industry members sent a letter on November 14, 2011, requesting help in getting Congress to focus its effort to enhance operational issues with the new fisheries management system. May 22, 2012 - Listening to the New England Council's Groundfish Advisory Panel talk about how that industry is going to pay for monitoring costs is kind of like trying to figure out how to pay your bills when you've just lost your job. Though monitoring is important keeping costs down is critical. As Panel Member Gary Libby pointed out, "If we had 100 percent monitoring we probably wouldn't have an industry."
