Pew Applauds Senator Snowe, Nine of Her Colleagues for Introducing Coastal Jobs Creation Act |

Snowe (R-ME), Frank Lautenberg
(D-NJ), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Maria Cantwell (D-WA), Susan
Collins (R-ME), Jeanne Shaheen
(D-NH), Barbara Boxer (D-CA), John Kerry (D-MA), Mark
Begich (D-AK) and Jack Reed
(D-RI) that economically supports fishermen and coastal communities
while efforts to end overfishing and rebuild depleted U.S. fish
populations are implemented.
"Senator Snowe and the other senators should be commended for introducing a bill that will fund new jobs for fishermen, promote the restoration of fisheries and fishing communities and revitalize working waterfronts. May 22, 2012 - Listening to the New England Council's Groundfish Advisory Panel talk about how that industry is going to pay for monitoring costs is kind of like trying to figure out how to pay your bills when you've just lost your job. Though monitoring is important keeping costs down is critical. As Panel Member Gary Libby pointed out, "If we had 100 percent monitoring we probably wouldn't have an industry."
