Dr. Jane Lubchenco, the Administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), sat down this week for a television interview with PBS' Charlie Rose.
Issues addressed ranged from climate change and water pollution to fisheries management. She said, "We manage oceans and coasts with the goal of having them be healthy, either keeping them healthy or returning them to a healthy state… there are over 140 different federal laws and regulations and each one is sort of implemented individually. So [the New Ocean Policy] says we need a more integrated approach." Watch the entire interview with Charlie Rose.

May 22, 2012 - Listening to the New England Council's Groundfish Advisory Panel talk about how that industry is going to pay for monitoring costs is kind of like trying to figure out how to pay your bills when you've just lost your job. Though monitoring is important keeping costs down is critical. As Panel Member Gary Libby pointed out, "If we had 100 percent monitoring we probably wouldn't have an industry."
