Senator Begich, NOAA Chief Lubchebco to visit Alaska |

Alaska Sen. Mark Begich and Dr. Jane Lubchenco, undersecretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere and administrator of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, will speak at a Homer Chamber of Commerce luncheon at the Best Western Bidarka on Aug. 23.
Lunch will be served beginning at noon, with Begich and Lubchenco expected to arrive between 12:15-12:30 p.m. A public forum including presentations by Begich and Lubchenco and questions from the public follows lunch and will last until 1:15 p.m. Read the complete story from Homer News.

May 22, 2012 - Listening to the New England Council's Groundfish Advisory Panel talk about how that industry is going to pay for monitoring costs is kind of like trying to figure out how to pay your bills when you've just lost your job. Though monitoring is important keeping costs down is critical. As Panel Member Gary Libby pointed out, "If we had 100 percent monitoring we probably wouldn't have an industry."
