Sen. Kerry discusses ways to improve fishing industry
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. (WPRI) - Senator John Kerry was in New Bedford Thursday, to discuss the fishing industry and also announce grants for the city's fire department.
 

Kerry and several other city leaders talked about ways to improve Massachusetts' fishing industry, which has a large presence in New Bedford.

Sen. Kerry said, "Our fisherman across Massachusetts are hurting, not just the economy, but the government and some the decisions that have been made without sensitivity and without adequate creativity. I believe we can do better."

May 22, 2012 - Listening to the New England Council's Groundfish Advisory Panel talk about how that industry is going to pay for monitoring costs is kind of like trying to figure out how to pay your bills when you've just lost your job. Though monitoring is important keeping costs down is critical. As Panel Member Gary Libby pointed out, "If we had 100 percent monitoring we probably wouldn't have an industry."
