New Bedford mayor backs Kirk's re-election for fishing issues |

The mayor of New Bedford, who has worked with Gloucester's mayor and other local officials on fisheries issues from the nation's capital to the State House, has endorsed Carolyn Kirk in her re-election bid for a third term.
Mayor Scott Lang of New Bedford endorsed Kirk for re-election Monday, hailing Kirk as a partner and leader in the struggle both cities have waged against fishing industry regulators. Read the complete story from The Gloucester Times.

May 22, 2012 - Listening to the New England Council's Groundfish Advisory Panel talk about how that industry is going to pay for monitoring costs is kind of like trying to figure out how to pay your bills when you've just lost your job. Though monitoring is important keeping costs down is critical. As Panel Member Gary Libby pointed out, "If we had 100 percent monitoring we probably wouldn't have an industry."
