Massachusetts Coastal towns back reseeding of shellfish beds damaged in oil spill |

An ambitious plan to restore the bay scallop population in Buzzards Bay using a portion of the settlement from the 2003 Bouchard Transportation Co. oil spill is now awaiting approval from the trustees charged with oversight of the funds.
In May 2011, a federal district court ordered Bouchard to pay more than $6 million to settle a portion of the natural resource damage claims resulting from the spill. Read the complete story from The Standard-Times.

May 22, 2012 - Listening to the New England Council's Groundfish Advisory Panel talk about how that industry is going to pay for monitoring costs is kind of like trying to figure out how to pay your bills when you've just lost your job. Though monitoring is important keeping costs down is critical. As Panel Member Gary Libby pointed out, "If we had 100 percent monitoring we probably wouldn't have an industry."
