    Gloucester Mayor reviving dormant city fisheries panel
    Gloucester Mayor Carolyn Kirk, who has become a player in the intensifying national debate over fisheries policy, is reactivating the Gloucester Fisheries Commission — an agency created by the Legislature in 1956 to investigate and advocate for the "promotion, preservation and protection of the Gloucester fishing industry."

    420,000-square-foot Boston seafood processing facility proposed
    The Boston Redevelopment Authority has given a limited liability corporation tentative designation to create a 420,000-square-foot "soup to nuts" seafood processing facility — docks, auction storage, transport — at the tip of the Marine Industrial Park on the south side of the main channel into Boston Harbor.

    Maine Lobstermen Cheer Company's Bait Storage Expansion
    The Rockland-based O'Hara corporation serves many aspects of the fishing industry, including boat storage and repair. But it's the bait side of their operation that has Maine's lobstermen excited at the moment. Company vice-president Frank O'Hara Jr. says federal cutbacks in the herring quota a few years ago have led to an ongoing shortage of bait for the lobster industry. But he's confident this is about to change, following the recent acquisition of a 58,000 square-foot warehouse on Route 1.
