Free Hands on Medical Safety Class for Small Vessel Fishermen
When: Monday, February 28, 2011
5:15 p.m  – 6 p.m.

Where: Fairhaven Family Walk- in
210 Washington Street, Fairhaven, MA  02719
 

The class can accommodate 10 participants and will be instructed by Dennis Tomaz and Leah Callan.

 
The following topics will be covered:

• Cold weather injuries

• Lacerations & suturing

• Treating wounds & infections

• Splinting, taping of strains/sprains/dislocations

• Sanitation & health education (close quarter living)

• Evaluation: Participants will have the chance to re-demonstrate the skills instructed to them during the hands-on clinic.

 
Instructional material and resources will be distributed to all participants.

May 22, 2012 - Listening to the New England Council's Groundfish Advisory Panel talk about how that industry is going to pay for monitoring costs is kind of like trying to figure out how to pay your bills when you've just lost your job. Though monitoring is important keeping costs down is critical. As Panel Member Gary Libby pointed out, "If we had 100 percent monitoring we probably wouldn't have an industry."
