The 2011 Period 2 quota for spiny dogfish fishery has been harvested. Effective 0001 hours, January 13, 2012, the fishery for spiny dogfish is closed. You may not fish for, possess, transfer, or land any spiny dogfish in state or Federal waters until May 1, 2012, when the 2012 spiny dogfish fishing year begins. Read the announcement from NERO

May 22, 2012 - Listening to the New England Council's Groundfish Advisory Panel talk about how that industry is going to pay for monitoring costs is kind of like trying to figure out how to pay your bills when you've just lost your job. Though monitoring is important keeping costs down is critical. As Panel Member Gary Libby pointed out, "If we had 100 percent monitoring we probably wouldn't have an industry."
