Ocean Explorium announces its September Ocean Voice speakers

NEW BEDFORD — The Ocean Explorium announces that the month of September brings not one but two Ocean Voice speakers to New Bedford.

 

On Thursday, Sept. 2, Catherine Dempsey will present "True as the Compass: The Life and Expeditions of Captain Bob Bartlett." Ms. Dempsey was, until recently, the executive director of the Historic Sites Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.

On Thursday, Sept. 23, Steve Theberge, a member of the Florida Sea Grant faculty in Panama City, will present "From Burping Fish to Giant Oil Spills: How Can a Local Sea Grant Agent Help Out?" Mr. Theberge writes that "Local fishing communities face many challenges. How do we help them adjust and survive?" His talk will cover such issues as bycatch mortality, cooperative research, counting fish and other pertinent topics.
