Rhode Island: The undersea world of Mike Laptew
A free diver, Mike Laptew will spend hours under the waves, a minute or two at a time, probing with his camera, capturing scenes of the sea creatures, flora and rock formations that inhabit a world most Rhode Islanders have never truly seen.
 

We live near one of the most productive ecosystems in the world," he said. "The soup of Narragansett Bay is a factory of life."

The program is designed for anyone to enjoy, from the serious fisherman to the person who just loves nature. It's a glimpse at a remarkable world, retaining vestiges hundreds of millions of years old.

HASTINGS: Time to improve the Endangered Species Act

May 18, 2012 - When the Endangered Species Act (ESA) was signed into law in 1973 by President Nixon, he spoke about the importance of preserving “the rich array of animal life with which our country has been blessed.” I believe that goal is as important today as it was back then. However, after nearly 40 years, it’s time to take a fresh, honest look at the law and consider whether there are ways it could be improved to do a better job of protecting and recovering species.
