Community supported fish program links customers with fishermen |
|
BREWSTER — Dave Henchy of Brewster was selling tomatoes and broccoli from Concord to local consumers as a community supported agriculture business and he thought about all those fresh fish, lobsters and scallops being off-loaded nearby at Chatham Fish Pier.
The fish are supplied by the fishermen of Cape Cod Commercial Hook Fishermen’s Association and processed by Andy Baler’s Nantucket Fish Company, filleted and packed into one to two-pound portions and delivered directly to the consumer, who prearranged for his/her bi-weekly delivery at a local drop-point.
Customers purchase a certain amount (see box) and can buy just finfish or a combo of fish, scallops and lobster. After the six weeks of deliveries there will be four weeks off and then the program starts again. Read the complete story from Wickedlocal.com

HASTINGS: Time to improve the Endangered Species Act
May 18, 2012 - When the Endangered Species Act (ESA) was signed into law in 1973 by President Nixon, he spoke about the importance of preserving “the rich array of animal life with which our country has been blessed.” I believe that goal is as important today as it was back then. However, after nearly 40 years, it’s time to take a fresh, honest look at the law and consider whether there are ways it could be improved to do a better job of protecting and recovering species.
