NOAA Staff Available on Sunday for start of New England Groundfish 2011 Fishing Year
This Sunday, May 1, 2011, marks the beginning of the new fishing year for the groundfish industry.  Click on the following links for information about the new management measures that will be in place this coming fishing year and sector management.
 
To help industry members and sector managers with any last minute preparations, NOAA Fisheries Service (NMFS) staff will be available by phone to field your questions on Sunday from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm.

HASTINGS: Time to improve the Endangered Species Act

May 18, 2012 - When the Endangered Species Act (ESA) was signed into law in 1973 by President Nixon, he spoke about the importance of preserving “the rich array of animal life with which our country has been blessed.” I believe that goal is as important today as it was back then. However, after nearly 40 years, it’s time to take a fresh, honest look at the law and consider whether there are ways it could be improved to do a better job of protecting and recovering species.
