LETTER: NOAA's handling of Jones' job nothing but a cruel joke |

To the editor: I am outraged and disgusted at the fact that former NOAA enforcement chief Dale Jones and his minions are allowed to keep their high-paying jobs after openly destroying local fishermen's lives. This is all a complete joke to me! My brothers and I are all boat owners, as are many other family members in this country and in Italy who have been fishing for over 250 years.
There are six generations that I can account for — and you're going to tell me, that after 20 years of sacrifice and conservation of the resource, we are only allowed a mere few thousand pounds of fish? Read the complete story from The Gloucester Times.

HASTINGS: Time to improve the Endangered Species Act
May 18, 2012 - When the Endangered Species Act (ESA) was signed into law in 1973 by President Nixon, he spoke about the importance of preserving “the rich array of animal life with which our country has been blessed.” I believe that goal is as important today as it was back then. However, after nearly 40 years, it’s time to take a fresh, honest look at the law and consider whether there are ways it could be improved to do a better job of protecting and recovering species.
