DELAWARE: Anglers struggle as fishing declines
BETHANY BEACH -- Prior to 1998, Joe Quade was able to catch 3,000 striped bass a year as he fished in the surf off the Delaware coast. Last year, he caught 17.
 

As recently as eight years ago, Bob Salvatore, owner of A&R Bait & Tackle of Lewes, was able to catch 25 to 30 bluefish in a day without a problem, ranging from 24 to 39 inches in size.

"That's a monster," he said about the 39-inch bluefish. "Now, if you catch a 15-inch bluefish, you get excited."

Local anglers have many theories as to why conditions are deteriorating.
